North Bigbee was a Dallas writer who received degrees in English and Journalism from Southern Methodist University. He worked at the Dallas Morning News as oil editor and as Public Relations Director of the Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association during the 1920s and '30s, but also began to develop a career as a freelance writer. During World War II he was a business editor for the Army publication Yank. Following the war, Bigbee worked primarily as a freelance writer, publishing articles in over 50 magazines including Readers Digest and Esquire. He also wrote plays, sometimes collaborating with Walter Holbrook. Bigbee died in 1979 at the age of 75.

By no means an overview of Bigbee's career, this collection does hold examples of his poetry, plays, short stories, lyrics, and non-fiction writing as well as a small amount of correspondence, notes about plot ideas, and outlines covering composition strategy and effective writing techniques.
