As Murphy & Bolanz compiled their maps of Dallas, they needed some method of tracking and finding these maps. As a result, they created two index books to reference the thousands of maps in the nine block and addition books. These two books mostly duplicated each other, but both were transcribed and included here.

When we transcribed the indexes, we generally left the original spelling and wording as written by Murphy & Bolanz. The few exceptions we made:

Obvious, verifiable spelling errors. For example, if the name on the referenced map is spelled differently than the index entry, we corrected the index entry.
Abbreviations spelled out, when known. For example, "O. C." = "Oak Cliff."
Cross-references added when an entry referred to multiple entities.

Also, the transcribed index includes incomplete and illegible entries, usually denoted with a "?".
