Heritage Lab

The Heritage Lab is a place for customers to digitize irreplaceable family memories and create new ways to celebrate them. Generously funded by the Dallas Genealogical Society, the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, and the General Levi Casey Chapter, NSDAR, the Heritage Lab’s resources are available for all library visitors on the 8th floor of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library. Register for upcoming Heritage Lab programs here.

To Get Started:

  1. Find the type of material you would like to digitize below and complete the accompanying equipment training.

  2. Schedule an appointment to use the Heritage Lab by calling 214-670-1433 or emailing libcreativespaces@dallas.gov. Appointments are available during the library’s open hours of Wednesday & Friday 9-5, Tuesday & Thursday 9-8 and Saturday & Sunday 9-4.

  3. On the day of your appointment, bring a signed waiver, your item(s) to digitize, and a USB, writeable DVD/CD or access to cloud storage to save your work.

Please note: When converting a video or audio cassette to digital formats, media is converted in real time (a two-hour home movie will take two hours to convert). Be prepared to stay with your project.
